NEW WORK

‘In other words: the essence of a person leaves nothing behind but a story.’ (Hannah Arendt in ‘Life of the Mind’).

In February I went on a cruise around Lake Nasser, Egypt, looking for such a story, creating the next chapter of ‘“The most beautiful memory”

I am grateful I made it to this special place, one of the largest man made lakes in the world in the vicinity of the Tropic of Cancer and underneath it, Nubia.

JASPER

13 years ago I shot my first Stern Magazine reportage about a young boy living with autism and his family. Last November writer Ariane Heimbach and I went back to meet Jasper who had just turned 18. Our follow up reportage was recently published in Stern magazin. See a selection of images here.

LECTURING

This semester I had the chance to serve as a lecturer in photography at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Mannheim, teaching the weekly Fotodesign class. It was a very rewarding and enjoyable experience!

AWARDS

Writer Tobias Asmuth and I won this year’s Medienpreis der Deutschen Stiftung Weltbevölkerung. This will enable us to work on the broader theme of the recent wave of femicides (and the resulting activism) in Nairobi, Kenya this July.

I was also awarded at the Hansel Mieth Preis together with writer Annabelle Seubert for our piece in ZEIT Online about the foreign office in Darmstadt (Der schlimmste Ort aller Zeiten).

ANGKOR PHOTO FESTIVAL

I am happy that an adapted version of the multimedia clip I produced for “The most beautiful memory” screened at the Open Program Section of Angkor Photo Festival .
