Sister Angelique

Shot on assignment for Perspective Magazine/UNHCR, 2013

In Dungu, a small place in the Northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sister Angelique Namaika helps young women that have been traumatized by forceful abduction by the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) rebels. She listens to them, teaches them new skills, makes sure they can read and write and brings them together to create a sense of community to support for each other. For her amazing yet noble work she has been awarded the Nansen Refugee Award by the UN High Commissioner of Refugees in Geneva on September 17th.
